Shortsville vocations gathering includes prayer, picnic

Diocese of Rochester seminarians, priests and laity gathered for the ninth-annual Seminarians/Vocations Mass and Picnic on Aug. 4, the feast day of St. John Vianney, patron saint of parish priests. Father James Muscatella celebrated Mass at Shortsville’s St. Dominic Church, which is part of St. Peter Parish. Mass was followed by a pulled pork dinner, ice cream truck and lawn games.

Mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral on the morning of May 25 started out with George Bastedo IV sitting alongside his family.
An hour later, the 30-year-old not only took up a new position in the cathedral — moving to the deacon’s chair near Bishop Salvatore R. Matano’s cathedra — but also assumed a new title.
